KEY POINTS:

A EIGRP STUB STATIC router have the following behaviors:
> It can received a network advertise by the Neighboring EIGRP Router.
> The STUB Router can select which routes  to advertise or share to the neighboring router by configuring the static routes.
> Redistribution is a must on the STUB Router. This can be completed by applying “redistribute static” under the EIGRP Process.

EIGRP CONFIGURATIONS OF THE THREE ROUTERS:

MANILA#sh run | sec eigrp
router eigrp 12
 network 100.100.100.0 0.0.0.255
 network 192.168.12.0

MELBOURNE#sh run | sec eigrp
router eigrp 12
 network 192.168.12.0
 network 200.200.200.0

SINGAPORE#sh run | sec eigrp
router eigrp 12
 network 150.150.150.0 0.0.0.255
 network 192.168.23.0

SINGAPORE#

NOTE:  If you notice the above configurations, although, I have configured “no auto-summary” under EIGRP process, it does not show for the results of the show run | sec eigrp.

Now before we configured the EIGRP STUB STATIC, Let’s see what’s the current entries of the routing table on the three routers.

>>> As observed, all the three routers have the CORRECT Routing entries without the EIGRP STUB Configurations.

Now, let’s enabled EIGRP STUB STATIC on MELBOURNE Router.

MELBOURNE#config t
Enter configuration commands, one per line.  End with CNTL/Z.
MELBOURNE(config)#router eigrp 12
MELBOURNE(config-router)#eigrp stub static

Let’s check the routing entries of the three routers,

MELBOURNE#show ip route eigrp

SINGAPORE#

>>> As observed from both the MANILA and SINGAPORE routers, it inherits the behavior of the EIGRP STUB RECEIVE-ONLY.

NOT UNTIL WE SET A STATIC Routes, the Loopback address for both MANILA and SINGAPORE routers will not be installed on their routing table.

So I will be configuring ‘STATIC ROUTE” on MELBOURNE ROUTER.

MELBOURNE(config)#ip route 100.100.100.0 255.255.255.0 192.168.12.1
MELBOURNE(config)#

>> Static route to the Loopback address of MANILA ROUTER.

MELBOURNE(config)#ip route 150.150.150.0 255.255.255.0 192.168.23.3
MELBOURNE(config)#

>>Static route to the Loopback address of SINGAPORE Router.

BUT I need to redistribute the Static Routes into EIGRP PROCESS otherwise it will not be installed on MANILA & SINGAPORE Routing Table.

 MELBOURNE(config)#router eigrp 12
MELBOURNE(config-router)#redistribute static
MELBOURNE(config-router)#

NOW, LET’S CHECK THE ROUTING entries on both the MANILA and SINGAPORE ROUTERS.

MANILA#show ip route eigrp

>> As observed, we can see that MANILA and SINGAPORE Router have learned the static routes as an ” External EIGRP Network”.
